The Analogue Life of Dawid
Dawid lives in Hamburg and drives a white Volvo 240 saloon from the early nineties – a classic Volvo which is closely linked to his analogue view of the world.

Because Dawid isn’t just interested in classic cars. He also loves old motorbikes, music on vinyl and cassettes – basically anything to do with analogue technology. He captures the world with his old Canon F1, using grainy analogue film, which is sometimes a little past its expiration date. For Dawid, it’s not just about the aesthetics of the images themselves, but about the whole process that makes analogue photography so captivating. Loading the film, taking your time with every shot, engaging with the subject and then waiting – sometimes for weeks – until you finally see the developed photos. “There’s always a kind of anticipation,” he says. “And often a small surprise.”
And the results are stunning. Even Volvo Cars Germany has taken notice of Dawid and featured his photos.

In a fast-moving, digital world, this slower process has a calming effect on Dawid. It invites patience and attention, qualities that feel increasingly rare. In many ways, driving the old Volvo offers the same experience.
But how did his journey with Volvo actually begin? It all started during his student days. Nobody in his family had any connection to the brand, but through friends he had his first ride in a dark green Volvo 940. And the moment he got behind the wheel himself, he was hooked.
In the summer of 2020, he came across the Volvo 240 saloon. Or was it perhaps the other way round? Even though the car was technically in rather poor condition at the time, it was love at first sight. It wasn’t a rational decision, more a matter of instinct and a good feeling – one he has never regretted. After the initial repairs, the great Volvo 240 adventure finally began.

The Volvo 240 isn’t his only connection to the brand. His first car, a silver 1998 Volvo V70, has been his everyday car for eleven years. He has clocked up countless miles in these two cars – and collected just as many memories in the process. But the 240 is something special. It’s the car he takes out on Sundays, the one he pairs with his camera, the one that turns a simple drive into something special.
For Dawid, both analogue photography and the Volvo 240 share the same quality: they slow things down. And make moments last.
